05: Indira Gandhi

Her full name is Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi, not related to Mahatma Gandhi. She was the central figure of the Indian National Congress. She is the only female prime minister of India till now. She was witty in making decisions and mostly known for strong attitude in politics. Through an online poll in the year 1999, she was declared as ‘Woman of the Millennium’ by BBC. She played a great role during the Pak-BD war in1971. She worked for social reformation. Her father’s values profoundly touched her. She worked to establish the constitution of equal pay for both men and women. After her last speech at Orissa, she was assassinated on 30th October 1984.

04: Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an Indian politician and a member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was born on 25th December 1924. He served India three times as a Prime Minister. He remained a full-time prime minister during the time of 1999-2004. He also remained a member of the Indian parliament for almost 40 years. During his reign, India made its nuclear test in 1998. He travelled by bus to Lahore to reconcile the relationship with Pakistan. He was awarded the highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ by Pranab Mukherjee, the President of India in 2015. His birthday is celebrated as the ‘Good Governance Day’. He recently died on 16th August 2018 because of age-related sickness.

03: Lal Bahadur Shastri

Lal Bahadur Shastri was a political pioneer. He was a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi’s influence is mostly seen in his works. He was the leader of Indian National Congress. He was the 2nd prime minister of India. He was one of the most famous faces of the Indian Independence Movement. He led the Indo-Pak war in 1965 also. He died after the Tashkent Agreement. Though it is said that he died by a heart attack, but it is assumed that it was a planned murder. In his lifetime, he participated in the ‘Salt Satyagraha’. Also, during his tenure, the riots were subsided. He gave the phenomenal slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’. The underlying statement of this slogan was ‘Jai Hind’.

02: Jawaharlal Nehru

He is the 1st prime minister of independent India. He was born on 14th November 1889. Starting from 1947, till his death 1964 he served for India. He is the maker of the ‘Modern India’. Children in India call him ‘Chacha Nehru’. He thought of the idea of ‘Secular India’. He shaped India, and he was a one-person army of his fine words. During his law studies, he formed the love for politics. He saw the struggling of Indian people under the British colonialism. After association with Mahatma Gandhi, his ideas got the right path. He also participated in the ‘Salt Satyagraha’. This movement is still considered as the wind in the change of India. His residence ‘Teen Murti House’ has now become the museum.

01: Narendra Modi

Narendra Modi is the 14th and current prime minister of India. He was born on 17th September 1950 in Gujarat. His full name is Narendra Damodaran Modi. He is the member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). During his early childhood, he struggled a lot. He is an enthusiastic leader. He is a master of witty strategies. In 1988, he was elected as the General Secretary of BJP; later in 1995, he became the secretary of BJP. His ‘Monetization’ campaign is one of the most famous anti-corruption campaigns till date. He started the ‘Swachch Bharat’ mission to make India a clean country. Also, the ‘Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat’ campaign is to eradicate illiteracy from India.
